Bankstown Tower 3

In 1961 construction commenced on a new Control Tower at Sydney/Bankstown aerodrome. Along with Melbourne/Moorabbin, Bankstown is Australia's busiest airport in terms of movement numbers. As well as a large General Aviation component, in the 1960s Bankstown was also home to a significant aircraft manufacturing industry that included de Havilland Australia and final assembly of the Victa Airtourer.

The black and white photos below show the new Tower being built during 1961, while the photo above shows it on 9 August 2010 as seen looking west from the main hangar area.
